Hi everyone! Welcome to the Maths space!
This space is dedicated to any students who are studying for A-levels, AS Levels or an IB in Maths, Further Maths and/or Statistics, as well as the Core Maths qualification. Our maths teacher, ALI A. is here to help!
In this space, we encourage you to do the following things:
- Find out what we're covering in the latest FREE webinars
- Ask for tips on how to revise properly for maths
- Post pictures of any questions that are stressing you out
- Let our maths teacher know what you'd like him to cover in upcoming webinars
- Reply to other people's posts with advice, answers to their questions, or to validate them!
This space is social and it's supposed to be built around your needs. So please don't feel like you have to wait for one of us to post!
Mr Akbar is also in the process of creating maths revision courses that will be a huge help to you. So, be on the lookout for those!
If you haven't joined and you're studying any of those subjects for your A-levels, please do so now!
A useful example of how factorisation and range reasoning can reveal all the solutions of a trigonometric equation.
Discussion:
cos^7 x + sin^4 x = 1, x ∈ (−π, π)
How many distinct solutions are there?
A short problem that rewards careful observation of the exponential terms.
Discussion:
2^(x − 1) + 3^(x − 2) = 113
Can you find x?
A focused integration problem where identifying the right structure is the key to simplifying the calculation.
Discussion:
∫ x² / (x sin x + cos x)² dx
Can you find the antiderivative? Share your approach and answer below.
A great algebra problem where structure beats brute-force expansion.
Question:
(x − 1)^(x − 1) = 6x + 3
Can you find the value of x? Share your approach and answer below.

Can you find the quadratic equation whose roots are
1/(2a + b) and 1/(6a + b),
given that 2 and 6 are the roots of
ax² + bx + 1 = 0?
A neat application of Vieta’s formulas leads to the answer without solving the original quadratic directly.
Question for discussion:
What is the required quadratic equation?
