Getting A-level and IB English essay feedback can be tough.

Some teachers’ comments are too vague or confusing. Other teachers don’t have the time to mark as regularly as they’d like. Sometimes, you just need the same comment explained in a different way!

And then there are the private or distance learning students who don’t have an expert teacher giving them regular feedback.

But it’s essential that you get as much feedback as possible. Writing regular essays and getting someone to critique them is one of the most effective ways to get an A* – as long as you do your part by using the feedback to change how you write in the future!

That’s why we offer essay marking and feedback on all A-level and IB English essays, including:

  • Regular exam essays
  • Comparative NEAs (coursework)
  • Single-text NEAs (coursework)
  • Creative writing NEAs with commentaries (coursework)

You send your typed essays to us. We return it to you within 5 business days in the form of a Google Doc, full of comments highlighting what you did well and how you can improve. And to ensure we give you the best essay feedback possible, we use the A-level English assessment objectives as well as our own detailed criteria for successful essays.

If you’re a student of A-level or IB English Language, English Literature, or English Language and Literature, this essay feedback service is just what you need! We will help you no matter your exam board or set text. And we make sure our comments are down-to-earth and easy to understand!

Note: Have you checked out our live NEA feedback service? If you’re looking for ways to improve your English NEA coursework, I recommend you book in a session with me. We’ll work on the essay together live to make it the best it can be! Book here now!

How does the essay feedback service work?

When your payment goes through, you should receive a notification about a support ticket. This will come through both on your emails and through your Shani’s Tutoring Account. That’s where we’ll ask you to submit your essay to us.

When you’re sending it over, try to give us as much info as you can. At minimum, we need to know what exam board you’re working on and which English qualification you need help with (Language, Literature, or Language and Literature). If you can tell us which paper and question you’re responding to, though, that’s even better! That will help us to figure out which assessment objectives will work best for you.

Once you’ve given us your essay, we aim to have your essay marked and back to you within 5 business days.

At that time, if there is anything you need us to clear up, we’re available to help!

Currently, we can only offer feedback on typed essays. If you are giving us an essay you wrote in exam conditions, please type it up before you submit. We ask that our students send us either a Microsoft Word or Google Docs file, as we will be using the comment feature available through Google Docs. This will help us to make our feedback as specific as possible.

Who marks the essays?

All A-level English essays are currently marked by Shani Cipro.

Shani is an expert tutor who has been tutoring since September 2015. She is a fully qualified teacher who has worked as a PGCE mentor, training other English teachers, and has helped 100% of her private A-level tuition students to achieve A*-B grades. She currently works at a sixth form college in London, teaching A-level English Literature, as well as English Language and Literature.

Her university qualifications include an MA in History, a PGCE in Secondary English and an ongoing MA in English (Literary Linguistics). She is currently preparing a proposal for a PhD in Fantasy Literature. She also has a qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language, and has experience working with prospective uni students to get their IELTS qualifications and secure places at UK universities. She has worked with students to build Academic English skills and perfect the UK essay format.

Her expertise lies in helping every student to write A* essays, as well as ensuring that English education is as accessible and inclusive as possible. She is a member of both the Tutoring Association, as well as Qualified Tutor and holds an Enhanced DBS covering both children and vulnerable adults.

When you purchase our essay marking services, or book a session with Shani Cipro, you can be guaranteed that the support you get will be evidence-based and aligned to the exams. We pride ourselves on helping you to learn everything you need to know using accurate, supportive and down-to-earth feedback to make sure you’re on the right track.

What do the different prices mean?

As A-level English students, you’re required to write essays of all different lengths and sizes. There are times when you might write something short and sweet. It could be because you’re doing a short question. Or maybe it’s because you just want feedback on part of an essay to see if you’re on the right track. Then there are other times when you want us to look at a whole NEA.

Whatever you need, we want to make sure we can help. And part of that is about ensuring we have time to get the work done.

Of course, shorter essays take less time to mark. That means we can fit more of them into one day and get feedback out to more people. For the longer essays, things are more complex and take more time. It isn’t only that we need to spend more time reading! On top of that, there are more working parts that need to work together. So, the feedback needs to be more intricate and integrated.

Our pricing model reflects this. We’ve chosen to set our prices based on word count. That way, we can keep things fair no matter how long your work is. It enables us to fairly compensate your essay tutor while also ensuring we aren’t taking on too many 3000+ word essays in one go! That’s how we stick to our aim of getting your essay back to you within 5 business days.

We rely on you choosing the most appropriate option for your essay. We are unable to provide refunds if an essay does not meet the word count, and will have to stop partway through an essay if the word count runs out. So please verify before purchase.

What exam boards do you give essay feedback for?

At Shani’s Tutoring, we have been working with students to get the top grades since 2015. In this time, we have built up experience in all of the major exam boards. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • OCR
  • AQA
  • Edexcel
  • Edexcel International
  • WJEC
  • Cambridge International
  • CCEA

We are also experienced in giving help and advice for the International Baccalaureate (IB) qualification, for both the exams and the HL coursework essay. Plus, we have worked with students who are writing their Extended Essays in English Literature or English Language and Literature.

As well as this, we have worked with students from other countries who would like to learn how to write essays that meet UK standards to prepare for university study at a British university. We have had the pleasure of working with AP English students from the USA, as well as students from France, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, the UAE, Canada and Australia.

Do you do essay feedback for handwritten essays?

We are currently unable to accept handwritten essays. This is because handwriting legibility varies between students, and we can’t guarantee that we will be able to read everything that each student has written. Also, file compression can occasionally mean that handwriting in JPEG and PNG images becomes blurry, which can cause additional issues when reading handwriting.

We pride ourselves on providing high-quality services at all times. Only accepting typed essays is one of the many ways that we can consistently meet the high standards that our students expect of us.

So, for the moment, if you would like essay feedback on your written A-level English essays, we would need you to type them out into a document for us. This allows us to ensure a fast delivery of your feedback without too much back-and-forth, so that we can meet the 5 business day objective.

We recommend that you try to see typing up your essays as an opportunity to redraft and take care of errors that you can easily fix without our help. That means that we can dedicate much more of your feedback time and energy to giving you the advice that you didn’t know you needed. It means that our essay services can be a better value for money, and help you to genuinely improve!
