Why do your tutoring sessions cost so much?

There are many reasons why my tutoring costs as much as it does. Here are the main ones:

  • The average price of an MA-educated tutor with a PGCE and QTS is £50-100.
  • My qualifications and level of experience mean I am at a premium compared to many other tutors.
  • I am DBS checked and have tutoring insurance, which also puts me at a premium.
  • With the cost of living increase, I have unfortunately had to raise my prices.
  • I factor marking and planning time into tutoring session prices.
  • I have to consider cancellations and low-activity periods in my hourly rate.
  • My biggest expense at the moment is marketing my services, which I need to factor into my prices.
  • I have to factor in other expenses, such as my Zoom subscription and Stripe fees.
  • Living in London is way more expensive than other parts of the country.

If you’re wondering about the cost of tutoring in general, you can find answers in my dedicated blog post.

I understand that tutoring is often way to expensive for many parents and students. I believe that every student should be able to access extra help if they need it. So, please rest assured that I am working on ways to provide my knowledge and services at lower prices.

This will mainly involve group sessions and online courses. However, this will take me some time. I am currently working full-time as well as tutoring, which is slowing down the process.

Building up a reliable tutoring income in the meantime means I have more time and energy to focus on building my affordable tutoring options. So, if you would like to help me on my mission to make tutoring affordable, please like, comment and share my resources whenever you can!
