For security reasons, you may wish to change your password from time to time. This may be because you are worried about a security breach or you believe you have been hacked. Or, maybe you received your user account from me directly and have an auto-generated password. It is also good practice to change your it regularly to prevent it from getting in the wrong hands. Whatever the reason, there is a way to change your password here on Shani’s Tutoring.
Here is a guide to how you can change your password. Plus, there are also some extra tips to make sure that your account is always secure.
Changing Your Password #
There are two main ways to get to the right place to make the change that you need. If you know your current password, you can always go to your profile! Otherwise, if you have forgotten it completely, you can request a change link to be sent to your email address. Just make sure that you have access to that email address, and we’ll be fine!
You can find both methods below.
Changing Your Password Through Your User Account #
Going about it through your account is easy. Here is a quick guide that will take you through the steps that you need to follow.
- Click on the drop-down arrow in between your nickname and profile picture in the menu bar.
- Hover over “Account” until more options appear.
- Click “Login Information”.
From there, you can change your password to whatever you like. Then, just press “Save Changes” and you’re all set. Please make sure that it’s secure, though, so that you can’t be hacked! Check out my tips below so that you can keep your account protected.

If You Have Forgotten Your Password #
If you have forgotten your password and you can’t log in, you will need to use your email address to change it.
Press the “Sign In” button as you usually would. Then, press the “Lost Password” button at the bottom of the page. This will take you to a page where you can input your username or email address. Once you’ve provided us with either one, you will get an email with instructions on how you can change your password. It might take a little while to come through, so please be patient!

Please note: your username is not the same as your nickname. You would have created a unique username when you signed up. You cannot change this. However, you are free to change your nickname whenever you like!
Tips to Keep Your Account Safe #
It is your responsibility to keep your own account safe from unusual activity. So, you need to make sure that you take the right steps to keep it secure. Here are some of the things that you can do:
- Change your password regularly.
- Choose a secure password (see below).
- Never give your password away to anyone else (except a parent, if you need to).
- Do not use the same password for other services.
- Do not use passwords that are easy to guess (like “password” or “qwerty”).
- If you notice suspicious activity on your account, change your password immediately.
- Don’t click on suspicious emails or links.
- Always make sure that you are signing in from the authentic Shani’s Tutoring website.
For more about account security, see this page by Avast.
If you are struggling to get access to your account because you lost your password, please come to me directly. I will reset your password from the admin dashboard and give you information so that you can regain access. However, I will need to ask you for some details to confirm that it is you. Please do not tell me your password, though. I never need to know it to help you, or even to change your password for you. If anyone posing as me asks you for your password, do not give it to them. It is not me.
Choose a Strong Password #
It is very important that you keep your account safe by choosing a strong password. The website gives you a prompt in the form of a little bar telling you the strength of the password that you chose. This is so that you can be sure that your account is as safe as possible.
Please use the following advice to make sure that your password is secure:
- Make sure that your password is at least 8 characters (letters, numbers and symbols) long.
- Use numbers. More than one, if you can.
- Use a symbol or two.
- Do not just use a one-word password. Go for two or more words put together.
Don’t panic about your secure password! It is important that you choose something that you will be able to remember, too. Just make sure that you take your account security seriously and change your password when you need to.
What to Do If You Have Issues #
I am always available to help you if you have any issues with your account. If you can’t access your account at all, please feel free to drop me an email! Provide as much information as you can, so that I can be sure it’s you and find you on the system as easily as possible. Please email me from the address that you used to create your account. This will help me to be sure that it’s really you that I’m talking to.
I cannot share information about an account with anyone but the user. So, please make sure that you prove to me that it is really you.
If I’m unsure that it is you, I will send a follow-up email to the email address that is linked to the account. I may simply ask if you contacted me about account issues. Or, if I am worried that there has been a breach to your account, I will reset your password and ask you to change it.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with the password-changing process. I will do all I can to help!
